What You'll Do
Lead the daily operation and long-term reliability of server, network, and storage systems at a major mining facility. You'll ensure high availability, performance, and security across on-premise and cloud environments, including virtualization platforms, firewalls, and identity services. Design and implement system improvements, manage patch cycles, and maintain robust disaster recovery procedures to support continuous operations.
Oversee remote access configurations and enforce security policies to protect sensitive data and infrastructure. Maintain voice communications systems, including IP telephony and mobile devices, ensuring seamless connectivity across operations. Develop and refine logging and monitoring practices to meet compliance and auditing requirements. Guide junior team members through training and knowledge sharing, fostering technical growth within the IT group.
Requirements
- Diploma or degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent hands-on experience
- Minimum of five years in IT infrastructure roles with proven system administration experience
- Solid expertise in both Windows and Linux environments
- Experience managing multi-domain Active Directory, Azure, Exchange, SharePoint, and Microsoft 365
- Working knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and VPN technologies
- Familiarity with database platforms such as Microsoft SQL Server and MySQL
- Scripting proficiency in PowerShell, Python, or Bash for automation and system management
- Experience supporting NetApp storage and VMware virtualization environments
- Background in managing on-premise and cloud-based IP PBX phone systems
- Proven ability to secure systems through configuration, patching, and monitoring
- Experience creating disaster recovery plans and executing system failover procedures
- Strong technical writing skills for documentation and process standards
- Experience with helpdesk ticketing tools and incident tracking
- Ability to manage competing priorities in a large, complex operational environment
- Self-motivated with strong collaboration skills and the ability to communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Valid driver’s license required
Preferred Qualifications
- 5 to 10 years of experience in mining, industrial, or resource-sector IT environments
- Relevant certifications in Linux, Microsoft, VMware, or Cisco technologies
