Optum is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to develop and maintain software applications using modern technologies while supporting legacy systems. You will provide technical leadership, mentoring, and collaboration within Agile teams to directly improve health outcomes.
What You'll Do
- Develop and maintain software applications using React, .NET Core/.NET 6+, and C#, deployed in cloud environments such as Azure or OCI.
- Provide support and maintenance for a legacy ASP.NET MVC product.
- Create optimal design adhering to architectural best practices, considering scalability, reliability, and performance.
- Perform analysis on failures, propose design changes, and encourage operational improvements.
- Propose sound design and coding decisions that prioritize customer experience.
- Contribute to code reviews and automated testing to maintain code quality and improve efficiency.
- Provide guidance on engineering best practices and compliance with development procedures.
- Review tasks critically and ensure they are appropriately prioritized and sized for incremental delivery.
- Lead and mentor a team of software developers, providing guidance throughout the development lifecycle.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements, develop innovative solutions, and ensure code quality.
- Assist in documenting production support processes and ensure knowledge transfer within the team.
- Identify and implement process improvements to optimize team performance and delivery in cloud environments.
- Leverage enterprise-approved AI tools to streamline workflows, automate tasks, and drive continuous improvement.
- Communicate effectively with team members, stakeholders, and product managers to ensure alignment and transparency.
- Participate in Agile development methodologies, including daily stand-ups, sprint planning, and retrospectives.
- Contribute to a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent industry experience.
- 8+ years of professional experience in full-stack software development.
- Proven expertise in React, C#, .NET Core, REST API, Oracle, and source control/Git/GitHub.
- Experience with Datadog for logging, metrics, dashboards, and alerting.
- Knowledge of designing, developing, and deploying scalable and loosely coupled microservices.
- Understanding of security principles and best practices in web application development.
- Understanding of relational databases like Oracle, including SQL queries and database design.
- Understanding of the principles and concepts of microservices architecture.
- Familiarity with legacy ASP.NET systems and the ability to provide support and maintenance.
- Familiarity with security concepts such as authentication, authorization, data encryption, and secure coding practices.
- Familiarity with Agile development methodologies like Scrum or Kanban.
- Proven debugging and problem-solving skills.
- Proven ability to work in a team, communicate effectively, and collaborate with other developers and stakeholders.
- Proven eagerness to learn new technologies and stay updated with the latest trends.
- Proven problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
- Proven attention to detail for writing clean and maintainable code.
