Responsibilities
- Design and implement solutions that power query and data storage infrastructure, such as improving query performance, evolving the Retriever service, or enhancing storage layer reliability.
- Independently scope and deliver projects by breaking down complex storage and querying problems into achievable steps, surfacing trade-offs, and collaborating with teammates when needed, taking end-to-end ownership from design to production support.
- Collaborate with cross-functional partners, including Product Management and other engineering teams, to connect technical solutions to product needs throughout problem discovery, solution design, and delivery.
- Support services in production by participating in on-call rotations, helping define team KPIs and SLOs, and proactively reducing toil by addressing reliability challenges before they affect customers.
- Learn new ways to solve complex problems by exploring new technologies, data storage techniques, and query optimization strategies to maintain performance and reliability at scale.
- Thrive on collaboration by pairing, reviewing code, and offering constructive feedback, modeling strong ownership, and helping teammates grow while keeping conversations forward-looking and focused on business value.

- Prior experience with database engineering is a plus, as is comfort with Kubernetes.
