Optro is hiring a Senior Software Engineer I, Design Systems & Accessibility (Remote)

Optro is seeking a Senior Software Engineer I for our Design Systems & Accessibility (DSA) team. In this role, you’ll build the foundational systems that power every feature across our platform. As a core contributor to our internal Luna design system and department-wide accessibility program, you'll act as a technical evangelist, driving high-impact remediations and empowering product teams.

What You'll Do

• Expand and maintain the Luna design system, focusing on high-quality, reusable component architecture.
• Write clear and well-defined platform documentation to empower self-service support and technical clarity for other engineers.
• Consult and advise internal product teams on Luna adoption and accessibility best practices.
• Drive the department-wide accessibility program by refining standards and implementing high-impact remediations.
• Collaborate cross-functionally in unfamiliar areas of ownership, partnering with engineers, designers, and product managers across the organization.
• Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve complex software bugs, reaching into deep or unfamiliar product areas to diagnose platform-level hurdles.
• Leverage AI-driven tools and workflows to efficiently drive higher-quality outcomes.

What We're Looking For

• 5+ years of experience developing web-based applications.
• Proven track record working within large, complex, enterprise-scale codebases.
• Strong working knowledge of WCAG 2.2 standards.
• Deep experience with a modern JavaScript framework (Ember, React, Angular, or Vue).
• Ability to solve complex UI challenges using modern CSS best practices and accessible patterns.
• Proficiency with TypeScript and Node.js.
• Experience writing maintainable software tests (Unit, Integration, and E2E).
• Proficiency with AI coding tools (e.g., Copilot, Claude, Gemini).
• Proactive collaboration initiative and system-minded problem solving.
• Resilient collaboration and ability to translate complex technical decisions into clear documentation.
• Independence with discernment and a continuous learning mindset.

Nice to Have

• Ember.js experience.
• An IAAP Certification (CPACC or WAS) or formal training in digital accessibility.
• Experience working in compliance-driven environments (e.g., FinTech, HealthTech).
• A history of contributing to open-source projects or maintaining internal libraries/tools.
• Familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience with PostgreSQL or similar relational databases.
• A BS in Computer Science or equivalent professional experience.
