Aquia Inc. is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to build the APIs, data pipelines, and systems that power the Upwave brand measurement platform. You will process billions of ad impressions, manage complex data workflows, and collaborate across engineering, product, and data science to ship high-impact features and scale the platform.
What You'll Do
- Build AI-powered customer experiences by integrating LLMs and advanced causal inference techniques into production workflows.
- Design and build scalable backend systems, including microservices and RESTful APIs.
- Contribute across the stack from backend APIs to Python analytics services to React frontends.
- Engineer data pipelines at scale to process massive volumes of ad and survey data.
- Improve reliability and performance by deploying services, automating deployments, and monitoring systems.
- Collaborate deeply with Product and Data Science to productionize statistical models and integrate advanced analytics.
- Deliver insights that enable brand lift analytics and real-time campaign insights.
What We're Looking For
- 5+ years of experience as an engineer solving complex problems across APIs, data systems, and distributed infrastructure.
- Experience building API-driven products for professional users.
- Comfortable across the stack with experience in RDBMS-backed backends (e.g., Spring Boot, Django, Rails, Express) and single-page frontends (e.g., React, Vue, Angular).
- Fluent in modern UI frameworks, API and microservice architectures, databases, and cloud platforms.
- Embrace modern AI-powered development tools (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub CoPilot).
- Value structured software development practices: testing, documentation, CI/CD, and code review.
- Believe developers should operate what they build, considering observability, cost, and reliability.
- Collaborate closely with Product to design features that solve real-world problems.
- Mentor others and share knowledge freely.
- Take responsibility, move quickly to fix problems, and take pride in establishing deep expertise.
- Believe in high-trust, inclusive teams and communicate clearly and compassionately.
Nice to Have
- Experience with modern backend ecosystems like Java/Kotlin/Groovy (Spring Boot or Grails).
- Fluency with data systems such as MySQL, DynamoDB, and Presto.
- Experience building cloud-native applications on AWS, especially using Kubernetes and Terraform.
- Knowledge of modern front-end frameworks like React/Redux.
- Startup DNA: comfortable with ambiguity, iterates fast, makes pragmatic technical decisions.
- Experience in AdTech, MarTech, or measurement platforms, or excitement to learn.
