Responsibilities
- Conduct exploratory, open-ended analyses to answer high-impact questions central to Ground News’ product strategy.
- Analyze and model the impact of product decisions in ways that are easy to interpret, share, and act on, prioritizing clarity over unnecessary complexity.
- Define, develop, and evolve standardized product and business metrics to understand user behaviour, engagement, and subscription performance.
- Develop scalable data models that efficiently answer product questions and user behaviour.
- Create intuitive dashboards and visualizations that surface meaningful product insights.
- Lead the design, launch, and analysis of experiments (multivariate feature tests) across the product ecosystem.
- Monitor topline product and business trends to inform roadmap planning and prioritization.
- Champion a documentation-first data culture to ensure shared understanding and long-term scalability.
Requirements
- A self-directed data leader with a track record of moving the needle on product performance.
- 5-10 years of experience in product analytics, data science, analytics, management consulting, or related fields.
- Strong experience with Data models and DAGs, and modern BI tools (Looker, Metabase, Superset, etc.).
- Advanced SQL skills and experience working with cloud-based data warehouses (BigQuery, Redshift, Snowflake, Databricks).
- Proven ability and sound judgement to translate ambiguous business problems into analyses, as well as to articulate complex analyses into clear, actionable insights for product and business stakeholders.
- High standards for data quality, metric integrity, and analytical rigor.
- Fluency with intermediate statistical analysis to inform decisions with directional accuracy.
- Strong communication, documentation, and data visualization skills.
Nice to Have
- Passion for news, media literacy, or experience working with content-driven products.
- Experience with digital subscriptions, mobile apps, or in-app purchase businesses.
- Familiarity with AWS environment and orchestration tools such as Dagster.
- Exposure to experimentation frameworks or applied machine-learning techniques.
