cargo.one is hiring a Senior People Leader to build and lead a high-impact People function at our fast-growing, ambitious company. You will be the architect of our people strategy, translating business goals into performance-focused frameworks and owning the end-to-end employee journey.
What You'll Do
- Translate business goals into a performance-focused people strategy by collaborating with founders and department heads to design organizational structures, talent priorities, and processes.
- Partner on strategic talent planning and organisational design, collaborating with the Senior Talent Partner and team leaders to align on future talent needs and assess skill gaps.
- Own the end-to-end employee journey, from high-impact onboarding to performance frameworks, career paths, and compensation models.
- Maximize People team impact through automation and innovation, leveraging AI, tech stack optimizations, and process automation.
- Design for scalable impact by building thoughtful structures and workflows that remove blockers and streamline collaboration.
- Be the central hub for all people-related challenges, acting as a trusted advisor for leadership and individual contributors.
- Drive data-informed performance improvements by defining, tracking, and interpreting key metrics like turnover risk indicators and engagement signals.
- Partner across functions (Finance, Legal, external partners) to align Total Rewards, policies, and org designs with budget realities and regulatory demands.
What We're Looking For
- 10+ years of People/HR experience.
- At least 4 years in a scaling startup or high-growth environment (preferably post-Series A/B and either B2B SaaS or Marketplace).
- Experience working in a fully remote or globally distributed setup.
- Experience in an environment with headcount in the range of 200 - 2000 FTE.
- Proven leadership of a People function, having built, significantly reorganised, or significantly scaled People teams at least twice.
- Deep commercial acumen and understanding of P&L dynamics and organisational strategy.
- Exceptional communication & EQ, comfortable influencing stakeholders at every level.
- Analytical and strategic mindset, leveraging data to diagnose challenges and measure outcomes.
- Operator/builder mentality, enjoying crafting processes from first principles.
- High standards and growth mindset, pushing for continuous improvement.
- Strong sense of ownership and resilience, thriving under autonomy and adapting quickly to change.
- Willingness to learn and openness to accepting and giving feedback.
Nice to Have
- Knowledge of the German legal system plus one other jurisdiction.
- German language is a plus.
Team & Environment
You will lead a people and talent team of currently 2 people. The company has 110 employees (Cargonauts) of 40 nationalities. You will work shoulder-to-shoulder with the leadership team.

This is a global role. You can work from a permanent location (almost) anywhere within 2 hours of CET. Please check the provided list for current employable countries.
