UnitedHealth Group / Optum is hiring a Senior Network Consultant

Lead the design, implementation, and optimization of global enterprise network infrastructure, focusing on highly available and scalable architectures for remote data centers and DMZs. Apply deep technical knowledge in Cisco routing, SD-WAN, BGP/OSPF, and network automation to ensure mission-critical reliability and performance.

Responsibilities

  • Design, document, and sustain resilient, redundant, and scalable network architectures for remote data centers and DMZ environments using diagramming tools such as Visio and Draw.IO
  • Manage end-to-end network change control processes via ServiceNow, including detailed work planning, technical coordination, approvals, and adherence to standardized Methods of Procedure to reduce operational risk
  • Maintain accurate network device inventories and collaborate with vendors to proactively address hardware and software vulnerabilities
  • Standardize documentation for design and engineering drawings and IP migration strategies while building automation solutions using tools like Ansible and NetBrain
  • Develop and enforce consistent procedures for integrating remote data centers and managing product lifecycles using structured checklists
  • Participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation to respond to network incidents and maintain continuous service availability
  • Engage with technology vendors to evaluate emerging solutions and recommend innovations that enhance network capabilities
  • Collaborate with F5, security, and SD-WAN teams to align technical strategies and deliver integrated, reliable services
  • Foster a culture of accountability and technical excellence by mentoring engineers and directly engaging with stakeholders to solve complex challenges
  • Adhere to employment terms, company policies, and management directives, including potential changes in work location, team assignment, work hours, and operational policies as business needs evolve

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in enterprise network engineering
  • Extensive experience deploying and managing large-scale SD-WAN environments
  • Proven experience using ServiceNow for change management, including Methods of Procedure and approval workflows
  • Hands-on experience designing remote data center and DMZ networks and planning IP migrations
  • Demonstrated leadership in guiding engineering teams and enforcing technical standards
  • Advanced proficiency with Cisco routers and routing protocols including OSPF, BGP, VRFs, ACLs, and static routing
  • In-depth knowledge of Cisco routing technologies covering OSPF, BGP, VRFs, ACLs, and static routing configurations
  • Familiarity with network automation platforms such as Ansible or NetBrain
  • Proficiency in creating and maintaining network designs and documentation using Visio or Draw.IO
  • Proven ability to support 24x7 on-call operations for critical network incidents
  • Hands-on experience with network monitoring and diagnostic tools including NNMi, Splunk, and Wireshark
  • Demonstrated collaboration with Security, F5, and SD-WAN teams on integrated solutions
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders and technical partners
