Lumen Technologies is hiring a Senior Lead Database Administrator to join our team. At Lumen, we connect the world, igniting business growth by connecting people, data, and applications. You will be responsible for all aspects of administration, security, performance tuning, and data replication across our environments, with a focus on MongoDB, while also supporting Oracle, MySQL, Cassandra, Couchbase, and Postgres. You will provide strategic guidance and advanced troubleshooting as part of a hybrid DBA support model (onshore/offshore), working closely with cross-functional teams.
What You'll Do
- Provide expert technical direction in the creation, delivery, and integration of multiple and complex database solutions for design and production environments.
- Consult and collaborate with multiple teams on database design (converting logical to physical, performing design reviews) and production (database management, problem resolution, security).
- Explore and evaluate new and emerging technologies related to database design and production.
- Develop and drive overall database solutions and strategies.
- Evaluate and recommend new database tools and emerging technologies.
- Create database standards and processes.
- Consult and collaborate with Architecture and Infrastructure on IT-wide solutions.
- Lead complex outage analysis and resolution.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent education and relevant experience.
- Ability to achieve GSA suitability (government security clearance).
- Experience with MongoDB versions 4 through 8, including self-managed environments using community edition.
- Experience performing rolling patching of MongoDB environments.
- Experience installing, configuring MongoDB, and managing replica sets (adding/removing members, setting priorities).
- Proficiency with MongoDB utilities (mongosh, mongodump, mongorestore, mongoexport, mongoimport, mongosync).
- Experience analyzing performance on MongoDB environments, identifying collection scans, index usage, and long-running operations.
- Experience managing Mongo Atlas environments and migrating existing databases to Mongo Atlas.
- Experience with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, Google Cloud) and managed database services like DocumentDB and CosmosDB.
- Experience with coding and automation technologies such as terraform, ansible, and Gitlab.
- Excellent organization, oral and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and experience working in a large DBA team.
- Good design, analytical, and problem-solving capabilities with an understanding of end-user experience.
- A natural ownership mindset for projects, driving them to completion with high-quality outcomes.
- In-depth knowledge of multiple database technologies.
- Ability to lead integration between technologies and drive continuous improvement, including process standardization.
- Ability to lead design reviews for database designs, access methods, and pre- and post-implementation capacity meetings.
Nice to Have
- Experience using Mongo Ops Manager.
- Experience in Oracle 19c and 12c including RAC, ASM, OEM, GoldenGate, Data Guard, and RMAN.
- In-depth knowledge of multiple database technologies and experience leading integration efforts between them.
- Experience with MySQL database administration.
- Datastax/Cassandra experience, including Astra.
- Couchbase experience, including Capella.

- Location-based pay ranges: $132,232 - $176,310 in AL, AR, AZ, FL, GA, IA, ID, IN, KS, KY, LA, ME, MO, MS, MT, ND, NE, NM, OH, OK, PA, SC, SD, TN, UT, VT, WI, WV, WY. $138,844 - $185,124 in CO, HI, MI, MN, NC, NH, NV, OR, RI. $145,456 - $193,940 in AK, CA, CT, DC, DE, IL, MA, MD, NJ, NY, TX, VA, WA.
