DEKRA, a global leader in safety and testing services, is hiring a Senior Java Software Engineer to take technical ownership of a critical enterprise solution in the automotive sector. This role involves stabilizing Git and build quality, making releases reliable, leading the team through technical modernization, and relieving the team lead from day-to-day operations.
What You'll Do
- Take technical leadership with a strong hands-on component, responsible for code ownership, providing architecture guidance, and coaching the team through pairing.
- Define, establish, and monitor coding, review, and quality standards across all repositories.
- Steer Git governance and release management, including branch strategies, pull request processes, and CI/CD-based build and release orchestration.
- Plan and realize technical modernization of systems, design APIs, implement Strangler patterns, and drive the Java and architecture roadmap.
- Ensure quality, security, and observability – from the test pyramid and dependency management to logging, tracing, and non-functional requirements.
- Take responsibility for incident and problem management at the 3rd level, conduct root cause analyses, and establish sustainable runbooks and hotfix processes.
- Work closely with internal and external stakeholders and coordinate continuously with Product, Operations, Infrastructure, and nearshore and remote teams.
What We're Looking For
- A degree in computer science or a similar field.
- 7+ years of experience with Java (11/17), with 3+ years in a Lead or Tech Lead capacity.
- Experience with Maven Multi-Module in large legacy codebases and solid Git practice (rebase/merge conflicts, release branches, hotfixes).
- Experience with legacy decoupling (Strangler pattern), REST APIs, and SQL/JPA.
- Proficiency in CI/CD pipelines (Build/Tests/Quality Gates/Artifact Management).
- Routine use of Bitbucket, Jira/Confluence, and ServiceNow.
- Very good German and good English language skills.
