Role Overview
Lead the management of enterprise database systems on Google Cloud Platform, with a focus on AlloyDB for PostgreSQL and Microsoft SQL Server. This position plays a key technical role in maintaining, optimizing, and securing cloud-based database environments that support mission-critical applications.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer GCP infrastructure including compute, networking, storage, and identity access management (IAM)
- Deploy, configure, and maintain AlloyDB for PostgreSQL clusters with an emphasis on replication, failover, and performance tuning
- Manage enterprise SQL Server instances on Compute Engine or Cloud SQL, including patching, upgrades, and high availability setups
- Optimize database performance through query analysis, indexing strategies, and workload tuning
- Support database modernization efforts, including migration from on-prem SQL Server to AlloyDB or PostgreSQL
- Collaborate with development teams on schema design, stored procedures, and integration with .NET Core Web APIs
- Provide advanced production support, conduct root cause analysis, and resolve critical system incidents
- Implement secure connectivity using private IP and AlloyDB connectors, ensuring encryption in transit and at rest
- Design and manage backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies for both AlloyDB and SQL Server
- Use Cloud Monitoring and Cloud Logging to maintain system health and set up proactive alerting
- Apply infrastructure-as-code principles using Terraform for consistent environment provisioning
- Manage deployment pipelines using Cloud Build and Artifact Registry for reliable database rollouts
- Oversee secret management using GCP’s Secret Manager to protect sensitive credentials
- Ensure compliance through audit logging, access reviews, and adherence to least privilege in IAM policies
Required Qualifications
- 8 to 16 years of relevant experience in database and cloud administration
- Minimum of 3–5 years managing Google Cloud Platform services
- At least 2 years of hands-on work with AlloyDB for PostgreSQL
- Proven expertise in PostgreSQL fundamentals, including schema design, indexing, and EXPLAIN plan analysis
- Solid experience administering SQL Server in production environments, including HA/DR configurations
- Familiarity with VPC networking, Cloud DNS, Cloud NAT, and load balancing on GCP
- Experience with Linux and Windows OS administration in cloud environments
- Knowledge of containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes, including GKE and Cloud Run
- Understanding of cost management, budgeting, quotas, and licensing considerations on GCP
- Experience supporting Dev/QA/Prod environments with rollback and release strategies
- Strong troubleshooting skills for infrastructure and database-related issues
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
- Professional certifications in databases or GCP (e.g., Cloud Architect, Database Engineer)
- Experience using Terraform or other Infrastructure-as-Code tools
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines for database changes
- Background in large-scale database migration projects
- Working knowledge of reporting systems and data visualization tools
Work Environment
This is a hybrid role based in Chennai, allowing flexibility between remote and onsite work.
