Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors is seeking a Senior Data Lead/Data Lead to lead the development and optimization of enterprise-scale data solutions. You will drive innovation, set the technical vision for advanced cloud-based data platforms, and balance hands-on technical expertise with strategic leadership to make a direct impact on business outcomes.
What You'll Do
- Lead and mentor a team of data engineers, fostering technical growth and collaboration.
- Architect, design, and implement scalable data pipelines and processing systems on AWS, GCP, or Azure.
- Establish data engineering standards, governance frameworks, and best practices.
- Partner with stakeholders to deliver actionable data solutions aligned with business needs.
- Drive the technical roadmap for data infrastructure and platforms.
- Optimize workflows for reliability, performance, and cost-effectiveness.
- Provide leadership in data modeling, ETL/ELT design, and code reviews.
- Support pre-sales engagements with technical solutioning and proposal development.
- Create reusable frameworks to accelerate delivery and maintain documentation.
- Contribute to thought leadership and maintain relevant cloud certifications.
What We're Looking For
- Minimum 10 years of experience in data engineering.
- 2+ years in leadership or engineering management.
- Strong expertise in Python and SQL, with experience writing production-grade, scalable code.
- Hands-on experience with cloud data platforms (AWS/GCP/Azure), Databricks, Delta Lake, and lakehouse architectures.
- Deep knowledge of data warehousing, data lakes, schemas, governance, and performance optimization.
- Familiarity with real-time streaming (Kafka, Kinesis) and orchestration tools.
- Proven track record of designing enterprise-grade data solutions and integrating pipelines with analytics layers.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
- Experience leading teams in Agile environments and mentoring junior engineers.
- Strong problem-solving abilities, business acumen, and adaptability in fast-paced settings.
Nice to Have
- Relevant cloud certifications (e.g., AWS Data Analytics, Google Data Engineer).
- Awareness of industry regulations such as GDPR, CCPA, or HIPAA.
