Flock Safety is hiring a Senior Backend Engineer - Rails to build performant systems and deliver critical features for our public safety platform. In this role, you’ll contribute to architectural discussions, hone database integrity, and act as a technical lead while working autonomously within a fully-remote team.
What You'll Do
- Build performant backend systems.
- Contribute to architectural discussions for our platform.
- Deliver features that matter to our mission.
- Hone the integrity and performance of a PostgreSQL database where Rails is not the only client.
- Participate in database migration reviews.
- Contribute to platform architecture improvement.
- Support ongoing platform improvements.
- Lead a database optimization initiative.
- Act as a technical lead for a mid-sized project.
What We're Looking For
- 3+ years of PostgreSQL experience in querying and schema architecture.
- 3+ years of database architecture experience.
- 8+ years of Rails development experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent problem solving and analytical skills.
Nice to Have
- Framework-level development knowledge of Rails internals.
- Techniques for scaling Rails applications.
- Experience with Rails apps that demand especially high performance or reliability.
- Experience with Rails apps that are not their database's only client.

- Salary range: $171,000-$190,000 plus Flock Safety Stock Options.
