Responsibilities
- Lead full lifecycle ownership of backend services, including architecture, RESTful API design, and database management.
- Develop and troubleshoot asynchronous and concurrent systems such as task queues, background workers, and event-driven workflows, with attention to failure handling, retries, ordering, idempotency, and race conditions.
- Integrate AI-powered coding tools like Cursor and Claude Code into daily workflows to speed up development, testing, and documentation, while critically evaluating outputs for accuracy and security.
- Manage third-party API integrations from implementation to ongoing maintenance, including cost monitoring and rate-limiting strategies.
- Guide junior and mid-level engineers in system design, architectural patterns, and production readiness practices.
- Help define and uphold backend engineering standards, contributing to best practices and technical consistency across teams.
- Take responsibility for observability infrastructure, including dashboard creation, alerting systems, and tracking service-level agreements.
- Participate in on-call rotations as a primary responder to production issues affecting backend systems.
- Lead collaboration with QA teams to shape test strategies and ensure comprehensive coverage.
- Handle post-deployment support, including triaging and resolving escalated customer issues.
- Convert product requirements into detailed technical specifications and manage the defined scope of work.
- Explain architectural decisions and trade-offs around performance, cost, and latency to non-technical stakeholders.
- Gather input from support teams to improve API usability and documentation iteratively.
- Work closely with frontend and design teams to define API contracts and data payload structures.
