Shape the future of software engineering with AI
We're looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to lead the development of intelligent tooling that redefines developer productivity. You'll be central to embedding AI capabilities directly into engineering workflows, enabling teams to refactor code more efficiently, automate large-scale migrations, and maintain high code quality across complex systems.
What You’ll Do
- Build and integrate AI coding assistants like Claude Code and Cursor into development environments and collaboration platforms such as Slack and Google Docs.
- Design systems that empower engineering teams to adopt AI-driven practices, improving both speed and code integrity.
- Automate intricate refactoring and migration tasks using AI, reducing manual effort and minimizing errors during large-scale system changes.
- Manage and optimize GitLab CI/CD pipelines and containerized infrastructure using Docker and Kubernetes to support seamless deployment of new tooling.
- Enhance build systems to remain robust and compatible with evolving AI automation strategies.
- Translate complex technical requirements into scalable backend solutions, working independently in a fast-moving environment.
What We’re Looking For
- Proven expertise in one or more of: Java, TypeScript, JavaScript, or Python.
- Deep experience integrating AI into software architecture—beyond simple interfaces, with real-world implementation in libraries and developer tools.
- Familiarity with AI development platforms such as Cursor, Claude Code, Windsurf, and Amp.
- Strong command of GitLab CI/CD, Docker, and Kubernetes for pipeline and environment management.
- Background in software testing and leading large-scale system refactors.
- Experience collaborating in Agile, remote-first teams with strong written and spoken English skills.
Nice-to-Have
- Experience with Gradle, especially in package dependency and build configuration.
- History of enabling other engineering teams as a technical advocate or internal champion.
- Working knowledge of cloud platforms like AWS or GCP.
Work Environment
This role operates in a remote-first, globally distributed setup. Candidates must be able to overlap a full workday with the US Central Time zone to ensure effective collaboration with the core engineering team.
