KOHO is hiring a Senior Backend Developer (Platform) to build the foundational systems that empower our engineering teams. In this role, you will be responsible for developing internal development frameworks, maintaining high code quality, and owning critical authentication and authorization systems. You will lead projects, support feature teams, and contribute to a healthy engineering culture, all while advancing our mission to financially empower a generation of Canadians.
What You'll Do
- Own and maintain authentication and authorization systems, ensuring secure and scalable access control across all services.
- Develop components for the internal library used by all backend developers to build our service oriented architecture.
- Develop POCs, gather systems inputs, build dashboards, and make data-driven decisions to better our domains, systems & the business.
- Lead medium to large-sized projects, ensuring successful delivery that aligns with internal stakeholder expectations.
- Foster cross-team collaboration and help build a healthy engineering culture.
- Join an on-call rotation every few weeks supporting cross-functional services once integrated.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field.
- Embrace AI-powered development workflows and have hands-on experience with tools like Claude Code or other AI coding assistants.
- Experience working with and developing Distributed Systems as well as an Event driven Architecture.
- Proficient with programming languages like Go, Python and SQL.
- Solution oriented and thrive on complex technical issues.
- Love working on hard problems, and owning technical solutions from ideation to completion.
- Excellent communication skills to dissect complex technical issues clearly and concisely.
- Excel at collaborating in a distributed team environment, proactively engaging with teammates while being self-directed.
Nice to Have
- AWS certifications are a plus.
- Experience working with and supporting authentication/authorization systems (OAuth, JWT, RBAC, etc.).
- Experience with tools such as Datadog, Temporal, GitHub Actions, RabbitMQ.
