About this opportunity We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer with exceptional backend development skills using Ruby on Rails to integrate into our international team. In this role, you'll architect, enhance, and optimize sophisticated systems for a high-performance SaaS platform utilized by thousands of organizations to streamline workforce, project, and payroll management. You'll engage with interdisciplinary teams to address performance and scalability challenges while continuously elevating the platform's capabilities. What's in it for you: • Contribute to scalable backend systems for a SaaS platform used by 95,000+ businesses • Resolve complex technical challenges using Ruby on Rails, PostgreSQL, Sidekiq, and Redis • Thrive in a remote-first, autonomous environment constructed on mutual trust and asynchronous collaboration Is that you? • 7+ years of commercial development experience, including 5+ years with production Ruby on Rails applications • Advanced PostgreSQL or MySQL expertise, encompassing schema design and query optimization • Proficiency with background jobs and asynchronous processing (Sidekiq, Redis) • Demonstrated capability to design high-performance, scalable systems • Comprehensive understanding of contemporary architectural patterns (SOA, event sourcing) • Experience collaborating asynchronously in fully remote teams • Consistent track record of multi-year tenure in recent professional roles Desirable: • Experience with message queues (Kafka, RabbitMQ) or search engines (Elasticsearch, Solr) • Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, and AWS/GCP • Expertise in optimizing performance for high-traffic applications • Working knowledge of JavaScript Key responsibilities and your contribution In this role, you'll design and maintain robust backend systems that power our SaaS platform, ensuring scalability, reliability, and performance. • Design, construct, and maintain backend services and features using Ruby on Rails • Create scalable systems capable of managing millions of records and high concurrency • Diagnose and resolve performance bottlenecks in database, application, and infrastructure • Implement background job processing with Sidekiq and Redis • Develop automated tests using RSpec • Collaborate with the Engineering Manager and cross-functional teams to guide technical direction • Participate in code reviews, documentation, and strategic planning sessions • Guarantee high reliability and scalability of core services
