About the Role

Seagate is hiring a Research Intern to apply Machine Learning techniques to impactful projects within the Software and Applied AI Research team. Seagate conducts research that transforms technical expertise, innovation, and manufacturing excellence to develop innovative technologies for the rapidly growing datasphere.

What You'll Do

  • Apply predictive analytics for Hard Disk Drive (HDD) applications.
  • Optimize data flow throughput for storage solutions with Machine Learning.
  • Develop AI solutions tailored for the edge.
  • Profile and analyze AI workloads.
  • Engage in simulation and modeling using Physics-Informed Machine Learning models.
  • Work on AI-driven material discovery.

What We're Looking For

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.
  • Proficient in Python, with experience in TensorFlow, PyTorch, R-programming, and a lower-level language like C/C++ or Java.
  • A self-motivated and independent learner with a strong mathematical foundation in linear algebra, statistics, optimization, and calculus.
  • Proficient in understanding Machine Learning and Deep Learning frameworks.
  • Familiar with various ML approaches, including Supervised, Unsupervised, and Reinforcement Learning.
  • Able to commit to a full-time Semester internship (May/Aug to Dec).

Nice to Have

  • Knowledge or experience in applied reinforcement learning algorithms like Q-Learning or genetic algorithms.
  • Knowledge or experience in Machine Learning for vision or natural language processing (NLP).
  • Keen to stay updated on the latest ML developments and trends, such as Generative AI, Transformers, GPT, GANs, Autoencoders, Diffusion AI, and Physics-informed Neural Networks.
  • A proactive, can-do attitude, with perpetual curiosity and willingness to learn.

You will be part of the Seagate Research Group (SRG), specifically the Software and Applied AI Research section.
