JetBrains is seeking a Research Engineer to focus on Agentic Behavior within the Kotlin AI Value Stream. The role involves advancing AI-powered coding agents to improve how developers write Kotlin, ensuring high-quality and effective code through innovative tools integrated into the IntelliJ Platform.
What You'll Do
- Research and develop AI-driven coding agents for Kotlin development
- Collaborate with the Kotlin team to integrate AI capabilities into developer tools
- Improve the effectiveness and accuracy of AI-assisted coding features
- Explore novel approaches to agentic behavior in programming environments
- Contribute to the design and implementation of next-generation AI-enhanced IDE features
What We're Looking For
- Strong background in software development with a focus on Kotlin
- Experience in AI, machine learning, or programming language research
- Proven ability to conduct independent research and deliver practical solutions
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Proficiency in writing clean, maintainable, and efficient code
Nice to Have
- PhD or advanced degree in Computer Science or related field
- Publications or contributions in programming languages, AI, or software engineering
- Experience with language models or code generation systems
- Familiarity with JetBrains tools or IntelliJ Platform
- Open-source contributions in developer tools or AI
