You will act as a strategic advisor, requiring deep technical knowledge, systems thinking, and executive communication excellence.

What You'll Do

  • Engage with VA OIT leadership to understand business objectives and strategic aspirations related to AI, data science, and system reliability.
  • Articulate complex AI/ML concepts in clear, accessible language to non-technical executive stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with government stakeholders to formulate AI strategies aligned with VA mission goals and federal compliance requirements.
  • Create executive-ready work products including PowerPoint presentations, strategic roadmaps, and briefing materials.
  • Conduct in-depth analysis of OTG operational requirements, translating them into actionable AI/ML initiatives.
  • Design end-to-end AI solution architectures that integrate with existing systems while accounting for federal security and compliance constraints.
  • Develop technical roadmaps for AI capability maturation, including phased implementation, dependency mapping, and risk mitigation.
  • Perform process and system mapping to identify automation opportunities and workflow optimization.
  • Coordinate with Chief AI Office (CAIO) and Azure platform teams on platform decisions and capability gap analysis.
  • Research and evaluate emerging AI technologies and methodologies for applicability to federal IT operations, incident management, and system reliability.
  • Assess data maturity and quality as prerequisites for AI implementation.
  • Translate between technical teams, government clients, and senior leadership—bridging operational reality and strategic vision.
  • Prepare and deliver compelling presentations that convey complex technical information for executive audiences.
  • Build trusted advisor relationships with government stakeholders from technical SMEs to SES leadership.
  • Monitor progress of AI initiatives, ensuring alignment with established strategies.
  • Support government decision-making on platform selections, vendor evaluations, and capability trade-offs.

  • Master’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Engineering, or related technical field. 10 years of relevant experience may be substituted for the degree requirement.
  • 10+ years professional experience in data engineering, data integration, or ML operations roles.

  • Understanding of ITSM data models and ability to assess data quality for AI/ML applications.
  • Process and system mapping capabilities to visualize workflows, data flows, and integration points.
  • Understanding of enterprise system integration patterns, APIs, data architectures, and cloud/hybrid/on-premise environments.
  • Familiarity with ITSM platforms (ServiceNow preferred) and IT operations concepts.
  • Analytical mindset with ability to assess complex challenges and formulate effective solutions.
  • Strong research skills with keen eye for industry trends and emerging technologies.
  • Critical thinking to evaluate trade-offs, identify risks, and recommend balanced solutions.
  • Systems thinking to understand interdependencies and organizational dynamics.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with ability to tailor messaging for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Proven ability to create executive-ready deliverables including presentations, strategic documents, and proposals.
  • Experience presenting to senior leadership and translating technical concepts into business value.
