About the Role

The University of Chicago is hiring a Program Manager/Archivist for the Black Metropolis Research Consortium (BMRC). This role reports to the BMRC’s Executive Director and is positioned within the University of Chicago Library. You will support research and internship programs while applying archives management skills to maintain a key online resource.

What You'll Do

  • Work closely with the Executive Director to plan and manage the consortium’s daily operations, including budget monitoring, events coordination, internship and fellowship programs, and member relations.
  • Maintain the Archives Portal, a freely accessible online database for locating materials held by BMRC members.
  • Arrange and manage the BMRC’s organizational records in both analog and electronic formats.
  • Provide archival assistance to member institutions, particularly community-based archives, which may include appraisal, collection advisement, or staff training.
  • Represent the BMRC at meetings, conferences, and discussions with peer institutions at regional and national levels.
  • Assist with BMRC communications by preparing project reports, presentations, and documentation, with attention to grant management and reporting.
  • Draft and edit written materials such as post-event write-ups and newsletters.
  • Update BMRC website content, manage social media platforms, and handle incoming communications.
  • Administer the delivery of services to program participants and beneficiaries.
  • Perform other related work as needed.

What We're Looking For

  • A college or university degree in a related field.
  • 2-5 years of work experience in a related job discipline.

Nice to Have

  • Knowledge of core archival concepts and functions (provenance, appraisal, processing, etc.).
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple competing priorities, manage time efficiently, and achieve unit goals.
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and the ability to interface positively with staff, board members, members, fellows, interns, and the community.
  • Proven capacity to acquire new skills and to synthesize and act upon complex information.
  • Ability to work independently, with supervision, and as part of a team.
  • Prior experience facilitating workshops, trainings, and orientations.
  • Knowledge of project management, program planning, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to learn a range of position-related software applications.
  • Familiarity with archival description standards such as EAD.
  • Knowledge of social media platforms.

Benefits & Compensation

  • Salary: $63,750.00 - $75,000.00
  • Eligibility for health, retirement, and paid time off benefits.
