Chicago, United States of America Remote (Global) Employment $130k-$190k

Zen Educate is hiring a Product Engineer (Remote - US CT/ET)

About the Role

As a Product Engineer, you'll play a foundational role in advancing a platform that bridges schools with educators across the US. Working remotely within the CT/ET timezone, you’ll help define problems, not just solve them—driving initiatives that directly influence product direction and user experience.

What You'll Do

  • Lead end-to-end ownership of technical challenges, from discovery through deployment and iteration
  • Collaborate closely with Product and Design to frame problems and deliver meaningful solutions
  • Ship code frequently in a daily deployment environment that values learning over perfection
  • Initiate and guide strategic 'Missions' that accelerate business progress
  • Enhance core systems including permissions, audit trails, admin interfaces, and AI integrations
  • Implement analytics to uncover user behavior patterns and inform product decisions
  • Support platform scalability by modernizing the tech stack and improving system reliability
  • Contribute to AI experiments such as agent configuration and automated bug classification
  • Improve developer experience by monitoring CI/CD health and addressing technical debt

Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to identify root problems and engineer practical, scalable solutions
  • Strong product sense—starting with user needs, shipping early, and refining through feedback
  • Experience working in asynchronous, distributed teams with clear communication habits
  • Commitment to team success and long-term maintainability over short-term wins
  • Proactive mindset with comfort navigating ambiguity and driving progress independently
  • Track record of shaping project direction, not just completing assigned tasks
  • Curiosity and adaptability in fast-evolving technical and business environments

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in outcome-focused or mission-based engineering teams
  • Familiarity with Ruby on Rails, React, React Native, Heroku, or Cloudflare
  • Background in AI/ML systems, personalization engines, or knowledge base development
  • Work in permissions modeling, security auditing, or system observability
  • Contributions to developer tooling, CI/CD pipelines, or vulnerability management
  • Leadership in technical migrations such as SDK upgrades or dependency modernization

Benefits

  • High-impact role as one of the first US-based engineers
  • Career growth tied to contribution, not tenure or titles
  • Managerial support focused on development, not oversight
  • Emphasis on sustainable pace—no glorification of overwork
  • Fast onboarding with expectation to deploy in production quickly
  • Regular check-ins to ensure alignment and mutual fit
  • Inclusive culture that values being 'first of something'
  • Flexible collaboration across global hubs with strong async practices
  • Ongoing openness to new talent, regardless of hiring cycle
