General Motors LLC is hiring a Principal Engineer of Connectivity Hardware to lead the development of our in-vehicle connectivity systems, with a strong focus on in-house design and technical ownership. You will be responsible for the design and delivery of telematics modules, antennas, digital key access, and other wireless technologies, shaping the future of vehicle connectivity.
What You'll Do
- Define the long-term vision and roadmap for in-vehicle connectivity hardware, aligning development with overall product and platform strategies.
- Guide evolution of network infrastructure architecture and technology upgrades.
- Lead the design and development of connectivity hardware, including component selection, system architecture, schematics, and PCB layout.
- Oversee the full development cycle from concept through production.
- Partner with software, mechanical, and vehicle integration teams to ensure seamless integration of connectivity hardware within the broader vehicle architecture.
- Develop and execute test plans to validate hardware performance and reliability.
- Ensure compliance with relevant industry and regulatory standards (e.g., ISO/IEC, CE, FCC).
- Work closely with product managers, systems engineers, and potentially external design partners to align goals, manage interfaces, and ensure timely delivery.
- Stay current on emerging technologies in hardware and connectivity.
- Identify trends that could shape future product strategies or create competitive advantages.
- Act as a TLM from an individual contributor standpoint providing leadership and guidance to others in the org.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
- 15+ years of hands-on experience in hardware development, including full product lifecycle ownership and leadership of complex programs.
- Proficient in circuit design, PCB layout, hardware bring-up/debug, and wireless communication technologies.
- Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to influence cross-functional teams, communicate complex ideas clearly, and drive alignment across stakeholders.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with shifting priorities and evolving technologies.
Nice to Have
- Master’s degree in a related engineering or technical discipline.
- Strong market awareness and ability to shape product and technology direction through external trends and insights.
