We are looking for a Principal Cloud Engineer to provide leadership and deep technical expertise for our cloud engineering teams. In this role, you will drive continuous improvement, automation, and best practices across our environments while supporting and troubleshooting production systems.
What You'll Do
- Provide leadership on a team of engineers, including coaching and performance reviews.
- Proactively analyze existing environments to improve availability and performance or reduce costs.
- Collaborate with Engineering to drive the CI/CD delivery process and improvements.
- Ensure automation is used in all possible cases.
- Drive continuous improvement efforts across all platforms.
- Stay up-to-date on the latest technologies and best practices and apply them to environment builds.
- Support existing environments and provide thorough, timely responses to incidents.
- Document processes and best practices.
- Work with architecture to drive and document all environments and changes.
- Produce network, infrastructure, security, and flow diagrams.
- Introduce and build new tools to improve efficiency and reduce potential incidents.
- Ensure systems are scanned and vulnerabilities are remediated within required timeframes.
- Determine and present designs and approach to delivery teams and leadership.
- Actively troubleshoot during build and test to catch issues early in the process.
- Provide an incident escalation path as needed.
- Mentor and train other engineers and team members.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in an IT-related field or equivalent work experience.
- 8+ years supporting a production system as a Cloud Engineer.
- 4+ years in cloud platforms such as Google Cloud or Amazon Web Services.
- 2+ years in a senior role including mentoring, coaching, and training.
- Experience with Kubernetes services such as Google Kubernetes Engine.
- Strong scripting abilities with one or more languages such as PowerShell.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience using and introducing Continuous Integration/Deployment tools.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) such as Terraform and Ansible.
- Strong grasp of networking principles and their implementation.
- Strong experience using and configuring Linux and Windows operating systems.
- Experience working with databases such as Oracle, CloudSQL, MSSQL, or CockroachDB.
Nice to Have
- Experience in software development.
- Experience in on-prem infrastructure builds.
- Experience with .Net languages.
- Experience with telemetry tools such as Prometheus.
- Experience with APM tools such as Datadog.
