About the Role
The individual in this role will evaluate construction documents, develop comprehensive cost projections, and collaborate with project teams to ensure bids are both competitive and realistic.
Responsibilities
- Review architectural and engineering drawings to understand project scope
- Identify and quantify materials, labor, and equipment needs
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for bidding purposes
- Collaborate with project managers during preconstruction phases
- Conduct site visits to assess conditions affecting estimates
- Analyze subcontractor proposals for accuracy and completeness
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of material pricing trends
- Use estimating software to generate reports and summaries
- Track historical project data for future reference
- Coordinate with suppliers to verify pricing and availability
- Assist in risk assessment for proposed projects
- Support value engineering efforts to optimize project costs
- Ensure compliance with contract specifications and requirements
- Communicate estimate details to internal stakeholders
- Participate in bid meetings and strategy discussions
- Monitor changes in building codes and regulations
- Develop relationships with subcontractors and vendors
- Provide input on scheduling implications of cost decisions
- Maintain organized records of all estimating activities
- Respond to client inquiries regarding cost breakdowns
- Evaluate project delivery methods for cost efficiency
- Assist in developing scopes of work for subcontract packages
- Identify potential cost-saving opportunities
- Ensure consistency across multiple project bids
- Stay current with industry best practices in estimating
