Responsibilities
- Analyze and resolve slow database queries across a large number of databases by creating efficient composite indexes, rewriting suboptimal queries, and eliminating full table scans.
- Maintain stable performance and reliability across more than 400 database schemas, including managing schema changes and monitoring per-client data growth trends.
- Manage AWS Aurora environments by configuring cluster endpoints, overseeing failover settings, tuning parameters, and resolving replication and data lag issues.
- Optimize MySQL and InnoDB performance by tuning internal mechanisms such as locking behavior, buffer pool allocation, and purge thread delays in write-intensive clusters.
- Improve ETL and data processing workflows by optimizing INSERT...SELECT operations and computed table usage, applying batched writes and partition pruning strategies.
- Use performance_schema and sys schema tools to collect query performance data, build monitoring alerts, and create automated diagnostic procedures.
- Evaluate database resource usage and costs, adjusting instance sizes and query efficiency to reduce unnecessary I/O and align with pricing models.
- Educate development teams on effective query design, offering architectural feedback on staging tables and materialized views.
- Explore and implement generative AI tools for database insights, query generation, and diagnostics to improve efficiency across multi-tenant database fleets.
