APAC Mississippi, Inc., a CRH company, is hiring a Plant Maintenance Mechanic responsible for ensuring the reliable operation of our aggregate plant processing equipment. This onsite role in Slidell, LA, involves preventative maintenance, repair, fabrication, and welding on stationary machinery and mechanical systems, with a core focus on safety, quality, and operational performance.
What You'll Do
- Prioritize SAFETY, then QUALITY, followed by Production in all tasks.
- Take an active role in plant safety initiatives and ensure a safe work environment.
- Conduct OSHA pre-shift safety inspections of equipment and work areas.
- Operate cranes, manlifts, hoists, pneumatic tools, hand tools, power tools, cutting torches, welding equipment, and other specialty service equipment.
- Maximize performance of stationary equipment by performing repairs and ensuring preventative maintenance is completed on time.
- Perform fabrication, erection of processing equipment, and repair to processing and mobile equipment.
- Ensure backlog process is completed and prioritized with Plant Manager.
- Complete required paperwork to maintain equipment and run the plant to operational standards.
- Ensure preventative maintenance services and lubrication services are completed per schedule.
- Train and coach other employees on maintenance practices.
What We're Looking For
- Minimum 3+ years experience in heavy duty maintenance or equivalent combination of training and experience.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Ability to perform duties in a safe manner.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively.
- Ability to communicate over two-way radio or with hand signals and warning sounds.
- Self-starter with ability to work with little or no supervision.
- Strong mechanical knowledge.
- Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- Demonstrated proficiency with oxy/acetylene torch and stick welding.
- Ability to identify and order basic parts (bearings, idlers, screens, pulleys).
- Ability to field layout and fabricate in steel.
- Ability to work 8–12-hour (+) shifts, weekends, overtime, and holidays as needed.
- Ability to troubleshoot, repair and maintain all plant equipment.
- Proficiency with a wide variety of hand tools and power tools.
- Ability to work in outdoor environment and in elevated areas.
- Ability to climb up to 20 feet above ground on ladders and catwalks.
- Ability to walk/stand on uneven ground throughout the workday.
- Ability to bend, stoop, squat, crawl, kneel and climb ladders/stairs.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Good dexterity and hand/eye coordination for use of various hand tools.
- Able to reason through difficult operations problems and resolve them.
- Capability of working for long periods in extreme heat, dusty areas, confined spaces, and heights.
- Ability to wear required PPE including a hard hat, safety glasses or goggles, steel-toed boots, hearing protection, safety reflective vest, full body harness, and welding hood.
- Ability to work at heights.
Nice to Have
- Experience preferably in the aggregates industry.
- MIG welding proficiency a plus.
- Electrical knowledge and certification a plus.
