The University of Rochester is looking for a Physician Support Rep III to perform complex secretarial and administrative duties in a fast-paced environment supporting clinical, educational, and academic programs. In this role, you will be responsible for all clinic preparations, including providers' time and calendar management, coordination of patient care, and information/data support.
What You'll Do
- Serve as primary contact for provider(s) and main point of contact for patients pre- and post-operative.
- Manage provider(s) calendar and prioritize appointments and meetings based on provider preferences.
- Examine clinical schedule(s) continuously to identify opportunities for optimizing provider time.
- Anticipate needs of insurance companies by gathering all necessary information for referrals and prior authorizations.
- Apply provider preferences and protocols to select and delegate follow-up actions based on patient notes.
- Compose, edit, and obtain signatures for non-routine letters of correspondence related to appeals on denied claims.
- Arrange travel, conference registration, and hotel accommodations.
- Interface with organizations to facilitate invited lectures and speaking engagements.
- Research hospital medical records for information requested by physicians, insurance companies, and attorneys.
- Determine the order of daily surgeries and ambulatory procedures based on patient medical conditions and severity.
- Negotiate surgical/procedure schedule by communicating complex details to the Operating Room scheduling office and Ambulatory Surgical Center Staff.
- Authorize overbooking and rearranging of surgeon's Operating Room schedules based on case complexity and medical urgency.
- Authorize rescheduling when cancellations occur by applying protocols for surgical scheduling.
- Order all necessary surgical/procedure equipment, devices, and medication based on protocols and follow-up to confirm orders are fulfilled.
- Employ multiple contingency strategies to ensure all details, materials, and locations are ready for surgery/procedures.
- Ensure patient education and follow-up details vary according to pre-operative readiness and post-operative rehabilitation expectations.
- Account for completeness of all relevant information from pre-op testing and evaluations for review by the anesthesiologist and the Operating Room.
- Assemble necessary details from multiple tabs within the electronic medical record for disability paperwork.
- Assess calls to understand patient needs, prioritize medical concerns, and obtain responses from providers and follow up with patients.
What We're Looking For
- High School diploma.
- 2 years of relevant experience.

Benefits & Compensation
- Compensation range: $19.62 - $26.49 per hour.
