International SOS Government Medical Services is hiring a Pharmacist to deliver safe and effective pharmaceutical care. You will manage medication procurement, dispensing, and monitoring while collaborating with healthcare providers to optimize patient outcomes in a dynamic healthcare environment.
What You'll Do
- Provide a full range of pharmacy services at the assigned facility and ensure compliance with pharmacy policies and procedures.
- Manage all pharmaceutical activities including purchase, inventory, control, and record keeping of all DEA controlled substances.
- Secure and maintain a current facility DEA Registration Number and maintain necessary legal records on controlled substances.
- Provide direct patient care within discipline Scope of Practice and perform functions in accordance with accepted practice, licensure, and credentials.
- Respond to and/or coordinate response to medical emergencies.
- Read individual prescriptions, determine drug name, strength, and dosage, and adjust instructions to correspond to stocked forms.
- Type accurate labels and fill prescriptions, obtaining correct stock and counting medication.
- Counsel patients on appropriate medication use, utilizing native language or translated handouts.
- Screen prescriptions for availability and discuss therapeutic options with providers, suggesting formulary alternatives.
- Answer routine inquiries from medical staff on drug availability, reactions, and interactions.
- Package bulk drugs into specific quantities and operate tablet and capsule counting and labelling machines for repackaging.
- Fill requisitions from other clinic areas, preparing compounds and solutions as needed.
- Order supplies, track usage, research vendors for economical sources, and receive/check pharmaceutical supplies.
- Inspect stock for re-ordering, pricing, rotation, and outdated drugs.
- Maintain orderliness, cleanliness, and maintenance of pharmacy equipment.
- Participate in monthly and annual inventory of pharmacy service.
- Check medicine cabinets and clinic areas daily, refilling missing pharmacy items used overnight.
- Inspect and log temperatures of all clinic areas where pharmaceuticals are stored.
- Gather pharmacy statistical information for monthly reports.
- Inventory controlled substances and inspect all clinic storage areas monthly.
- Supervise work performed by Pharmacy Technicians.
- Perform record keeping functions in accordance with program policies.
- Maintain proficiency utilizing electronic health records.
- Complete all required discipline-specific competencies and training.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and confidentiality of medical records in compliance with Privacy Act and HIPAA.
- Adhere to and maintain awareness of Policies, Procedures, Directives, Operational Memoranda, and accreditation standards.
- Adhere to and participate in Safety, Prevention, Infection Control, Quality Improvement, Patient Education, and other programs.
- Attend and participate in general/medical staff meetings.
- Apply expert knowledge of pharmacology, pharmaceutics, pharmacokinetics, and pharmacy management.
- Maintain knowledge of pharmaceutical nomenclature, including generic, chemical, and trade names.
- Apply knowledge of grammar, spelling, and punctuation to ensure accurate copy.
- Work in a multi-cultural and multi-lingual environment, utilizing interpreter services as needed.
- Adapt to sudden changes in schedules and maintain flexibility.
- Communicate proficiently in English (verbal and written) to develop rapport with patients and co-workers.
- Establish and maintain positive working relationships in a multidisciplinary environment.
- Navigate an electronic work environment including EHRs and web-based training.
- Demonstrate moderate proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and SharePoint.
- Have knowledge of HIPAA/Privacy Act regulations regarding confidentiality.
- Demonstrate cultural sensitivity in all communications.
- Complete required organizational compliance education, including client-specified requirements.
What We're Looking For
- Current, full, active, and unrestricted pharmacy license in a U.S. State, territory, commonwealth, or the District of Columbia.
- Able to obtain licensure in the state where services are performed if required.
- Minimum of 3 years of post-licensure clinical experience in pharmacy.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certified through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross.
- Trained in Basic First Aid.
- At least one year of general experience demonstrating ability to greet and deal tactfully with the public.
- At least one year of general experience demonstrating capability to understand and apply written and verbal orders, rules, and regulations.
- At least one year of general experience demonstrating good judgment, alertness, an even temperament, and satisfactory performance.
- At least one year of general experience demonstrating ability to maintain poise and self-control during stressful situations.
- B.S. in Pharmacy or Pharm D degree from a program accredited by the American Council on Pharmaceutical Education.
Nice to Have
- Experience in a detention/correctional or residential healthcare setting.
