About the Role
The Outside Plant Engineer will be responsible for designing and supporting the deployment of fiber optic networks, ensuring reliable and scalable infrastructure through accurate planning, field validation, and collaboration with construction teams.
Responsibilities
- Design outside plant fiber optic networks for various deployment scenarios
- Conduct field surveys to assess route feasibility and identify obstacles
- Create detailed construction drawings and schematics using CAD software
- Ensure designs comply with federal, state, and local regulations
- Coordinate with contractors during installation and construction phases
- Perform quality assurance checks on completed infrastructure builds
- Support project management with accurate as-built documentation
- Evaluate existing infrastructure for upgrades or expansions
- Collaborate with internal teams to resolve network performance issues
- Maintain accurate records of network assets and changes
- Assist in developing material lists for construction projects
- Review engineering standards and recommend improvements
- Troubleshoot design challenges in complex urban or rural settings
- Ensure adherence to safety protocols during field operations
- Participate in planning sessions for network growth initiatives
- Provide technical input for procurement processes
- Monitor project timelines and report progress to stakeholders
- Use GIS tools to map and manage network components
- Support disaster recovery and network redundancy planning
- Stay current with industry best practices and emerging technologies
Nice to Have
- Professional Engineer (PE) license
- Certification in fiber optic technologies
- Experience with large-scale network deployments
- Advanced skills in specific CAD platforms
- Prior work with municipal or utility agencies
