Transport is looking for a Principal Network Design Engineer to provide complex technical support and architectural leadership for our Corporate Network project. You will act as the single point of contact for customer and internal stakeholders, focusing on Cisco ISE, ASA, and Umbrella technologies.
What You'll Do
- Act as the single point of contact for the customer and internal stakeholders for the Corporate LAN Network.
- Provide technical solutions, design architecture, and support across modern networks.
- Respond to escalated problems and progress issues to closure, liaising with NOC, field O&M, and customers.
- Update and document Service Requests on the Remedy system.
- Participate in a 24-hour call out rota for outside-of-hours support.
- Maintain up-to-date product and technology knowledge.
- Escalate product defects to appropriate Business Divisions or third parties.
- Build relationships, manage difficult situations, and negotiate conflict resolution.
- Advocate for the customer during system outages and priority setting.
- Assist in providing services compliant with KPIs to maintain customer satisfaction.
- Synchronize and communicate between Technical Support, NOC, and customer teams.
- Facilitate identification of control mechanisms and critical recovery paths for system components.
- Assist in providing proactive maintenance by monitoring and anticipating network performance.
- Conduct network performance analysis to assess problem impact and solve service-related issues.
- Manage preparation and execution of service migration MOPs, network upgrades, and retrofits.
- Provide timely notification of anomalies related to products and operational configurations.
- Deliver to agreed service standards, including monitoring and tracking of SLAs and KPIs.
- Deliver Network Design and architect responsibilities for the Corp Network project.
- Provide required Management Information and regular management updates.
- Provide qualitative input into appropriate databases to track and manage processes.
- Design and implement new SD-WAN solutions.
- Monitor network performance and produce network support documentation.
- Create workarounds, solutions, and mitigations for identified issues.
- Identify issues requiring detailed analysis and escalate to the product manufacturer.
- Implement approved configuration changes.
- Deal with, monitor, or escalate issues in an appropriate and timely manner.
- Analyze event information for trends and patterns indicating performance degradation or failures.
- Support the Problem Resolution Manager with trend analysis for proactive Problem Management.
- Take part in the on-call rota to provide out-of-hours remote support.
- Attend customer, supplier, and team meetings as required.
What We're Looking For
- Expert-level skills in Cisco ISE, ASA, Meraki, and Umbrella – these are must-have requirements.
- Proficiency in Cisco switches, routers, and Meraki devices.
- Experience in maintenance and firmware upgrades.
- Knowledge of Infrastructure Security, network management tools, MPLS, SD-WAN, VPN, and routing protocols.
- Knowledge of and experience with the data, network, and transport layers of communication systems, IPv4/IPv6, TCP, and other emerging protocols.
