Nordex SE is looking for a Master Thesis student to join our Grid Integration Control team. You will work on modelling and controlling hybrid power plants, contributing to impedance-based modelling approaches, stability analysis, and improving the grid compatibility of modern wind energy systems.
What You'll Do
- Develop impedance models for wind farms and battery energy storage systems in dq0 coordinates within a hybrid power plant setting.
- Validate impedance models against EMT simulations and raw field measurement data.
- Design control strategies for voltage and frequency control in hybrid power plants while considering coupling effects.
- Perform tuning processes for PMS control loops in MATLAB/Simulink.
- Contribute to improving impedance measurement methods and modelling workflows.
What We're Looking For
- Enrolled in a Master's program in Electrical Engineering, Control Engineering, Power Systems or equivalent.
- Knowledge of electrical energy systems.
- Experience in MATLAB/Simulink or PSCAD.
- Interest in stability analysis, system modelling and control design.
- Programming skills in MATLAB.
- Ability to work in a structured, analytical and self‑organized manner on complex technical topics.
Nice to Have
- Exposure to wind energy.
- Experience including power system toolboxes.
- Experience with converter control or wind farm control systems.
- Additional programming languages such as Python or C/C++.
