As a Laboratory Automation Engineer, you will play a key role in transforming laboratory operations through intelligent automation and data integration. Working within a collaborative technology group, you will design and deploy tailored software solutions that enhance the efficiency and accuracy of scientific research across multiple disciplines.
What You’ll Do
- Design and implement automation systems using LabView, C/C++, and Python to support laboratory workflows
- Develop secure, scalable applications for data acquisition, transfer, and management
- Configure and maintain connectivity between analytical instruments and central data systems
- Support Linux-based computing environments, including system configuration and troubleshooting
- Integrate new technologies and protocols into existing infrastructure to improve performance
- Work independently and with scientific teams to define project goals and deliver solutions
- Document system designs and maintain records for long-term knowledge sharing
- Ensure all operations comply with safety standards and organizational protocols
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field
- Minimum of three years of experience in laboratory automation or systems programming
- Proven experience in object-oriented software development and custom application design
- Strong understanding of operating systems, including configuration and updates
- Familiarity with communication protocols such as USB, TCP, RS-485, RS-232, and Modbus
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results with minimal supervision
- Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset
Preferred Experience
- LabVIEW development experience
- Linux system administration and debugging
- PLC programming and industrial control systems
- Database platforms including SQL, Oracle, or Citadel
- IoT integration in lab or industrial environments
- Image analysis techniques or tools
Work Environment
This is an onsite role based in the Newark, Wilmington, or Elkton area. The position requires hands-on interaction with lab systems and close collaboration with R&D professionals. No remote flexibility is currently available.
Compensation & Benefits
Base salary ranges from $97,843 to $152,880, with additional compensation including an annual bonus target of 8%, 401(k) matching, and an Employee Stock Purchase Program.
