The University of Toronto is seeking a Maintenance Technician to join our team. Under direction, you will perform minor repairs, maintenance, and caretaking duties across a number of buildings at the University of Toronto Mississauga (UTM) campus, ensuring facilities are safe, functional, and well-maintained.
What You'll Do
- Perform maintenance duties to ensure buildings, fixtures, and equipment are maintained to standard, including repairing and replacing equipment, furniture, and appliances.
- Execute minor carpentry, hardware replacement and repair, light replacement, switch and receptacle work, and hanging pictures or signs.
- Conduct general maintenance of lights, building fixtures, appliances, closures, and perform basic wall repair, caulking, and minor painting.
- Maintain internal signage and all Vingcard hardware, troubleshooting malfunctioning equipment as required.
- Keep all accessibility operators in good working order.
- Perform visual inspections of buildings, equipment, and fixtures, performing maintenance or reporting issues as needed.
- Clear entrance ways of snow and ice and lay salt.
- Perform preventative maintenance tasks.
- Check fire and safety equipment, reporting items requiring specialized repair.
- Observe, correct, and report any health and safety concerns.
- Follow established protocol during fire alarms, including checking panels, communicating with the Fire Department, making announcements, and resetting systems.
- Report on damaged or defective equipment, advise supervisors on required repairs, and follow up to ensure completion.
- Clean and mop floors, clean residences and related areas, and remove garbage.
- Liaise with supervisors, administrative staff, and students to ensure work orders and maintenance are executed to University standards in a timely and safe fashion.
- Respond to requests from building occupants and contractors, provide supplies or services, and accompany or direct parties as needed.
- Properly store and maintain an inventory of materials and equipment, ordering supplies as applicable.
- Maintain accurate and timely records of work completed and fulfill work orders and special projects.
- Complete other related duties as required or assigned.
