Signify is seeking a technical leader to guide a squad of engineers in a Player-Coach role. You will spend roughly 50-60% of your time on hands-on coding and architecture, and 40-50% managing team delivery and growth. You will own the technical roadmap for your domain, utilizing Ruby on Rails and React, and work closely with Product Managers and Designers to turn requirements into scalable software.

What You'll Do

Make high-level architectural decisions, including when to refactor a Rails controller, how to structure global state in React, and how to optimize database performance.
Lead by example through hands-on coding, taking on complex tickets, handling core logic implementation, and setting the standard for code quality.
Perform thorough code reviews to catch bugs, teach best practices, and ensure maintainability.
Advocate for engineering health by balancing feature shipping with necessary refactoring and dependency updates.
Hold regular technical 1-on-1s with direct reports to help them navigate blocked tasks and grow their careers.
Ensure the team delivers on sprint goals by helping break down large features into manageable tasks and estimating effort.
Act as a shield for the team by resolving cross-team dependencies and clarifying ambiguous requirements with Product.
Participate in interviewing and hiring new engineers to grow the squad.

What We're Looking For

7+ years of software engineering experience.
At least 4 years in a leadership or lead-developer capacity.
Expert-level knowledge of Ruby on Rails, including ActiveRecord, caching strategies (Redis/Memcached), and background job processing (Sidekiq).
Strong proficiency in React, including Hooks, Context API, and modern JS patterns.
Deep understanding of PostgreSQL or MySQL, including complex joins, indexing, and query optimization.
Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments and running retrospectives that result in improvements.
Ability to explain complex technical risks to non-technical stakeholders (Product/Sales/Success) clearly.

Nice to Have

Experience with TypeScript in the React ecosystem.
Experience with GraphQL (schema design and implementation).
DevOps exposure: Familiarity with AWS, Heroku, Docker, GCP, or Kubernetes.
Experience breaking a monolithic Rails app into services (SOA).
