Wells Fargo is hiring a Lead Software Automation Engineer

This role is central to advancing automation and intelligent software solutions across the enterprise. The Lead Software Automation Engineer will drive technical strategy, lead innovation in AI/ML integration, and ensure robust, scalable system design. You will serve as a key technical advisor, shaping architecture decisions and mentoring engineering teams to elevate overall capability. This position demands deep expertise in full-stack development, cloud infrastructure, and emerging technologies, with a strong emphasis on compliance, security, and operational excellence in a highly regulated environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead high-impact technology projects with enterprise-wide scope and strategic significance
  • Contribute to the creation and evolution of companywide engineering standards and best practices for large-scale systems
  • Design, develop, test, debug, and maintain software solutions across the full project lifecycle
  • Evaluate complex technical challenges requiring deep analysis of enterprise architecture and business objectives
  • Define and advocate for technology standards informed by industry trends and emerging innovations
  • Collaborate with senior technical leaders and external experts to resolve advanced system issues
  • Guide architectural decisions and implementation strategies for scalable solutions
  • Mentor and coach junior engineers to strengthen team capabilities
  • Establish and enforce coding standards and development methodologies
  • Lead or support project teams, providing technical guidance and peer mentorship
  • Facilitate effective communication across technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Drive innovation by staying current with new technologies and evolving practices
  • Conduct code reviews to ensure quality, security, and compliance
  • Participate in planning and estimation activities for development tasks
  • Optimize code for non-functional requirements and regulatory compliance
  • Oversee end-to-end software delivery including deployment and testing phases
  • Identify and resolve technical impediments and opportunities for system improvement

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of professional software engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through education, training, military service, or work history

Nice to Have

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related technical field
  • Proficient in Python, JavaScript, AJAX, jQuery, Angular, and React
  • Familiarity with AI frameworks such as LangChain and LangGraph
  • Hands-on experience with machine learning tools including TensorFlow and PyTorch, including model development and hyperparameter tuning
  • Experience building end-to-end generative AI pipelines using Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), vector databases, chunking, embedding, and context injection
  • Solid understanding of microservices, distributed systems, and cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, and GCP
  • Background in data science, including data cleaning, statistical analysis, and tools like Hadoop and Spark
  • Ability to navigate ambiguous problems, identify technology trends, and lead proof-of-concept initiatives
  • Knowledge of Agile methodologies, Test-Driven Development, and DevOps practices
  • Experience integrating systems via REST and SOAP APIs
  • Familiarity with CI/CD tools such as Harness and Jenkins
  • Skilled in using Ansible for automation and observability platforms like Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, and Datadog
  • Experience with incident management systems including ServiceNow
