Compulsion Games is hiring a Lead Gameplay Programmer to lead and mentor a team of 6-8 gameplay programmers while personally owning key gameplay deliveries. At Compulsion, you will collaborate proactively with art, animation, direction, and design teams to develop core gameplay features and systems, from player interaction and character behaviors to AI and game progression.
What You'll Do
- Lead and mentor a team of 6-8 gameplay programmers, fostering their growth and development.
- Collaborate closely with art, animation, direction, and design teams to develop gameplay features and systems.
- Work on proof of concepts for technical improvements.
- Debug and polish developed features to a high standard.
- Participate in knowledge-sharing initiatives within the Xbox Game Studios family alongside the Technical Director.
What We're Looking For
- Proven leadership experience in the video game industry, ideally on PC and/or console games.
- A strong understanding of teamwork fundamentals and the lifecycle of a successful project.
- Proficiency in at least one game engine.
- Competent and confident programmer in C++.
- Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with a diverse group of artists, designers, and animators.
- Excellent listener, as you will regularly conduct one-on-one meetings with team members.
- A high level of autonomy and proactivity.
- A human-centric approach, caring deeply about colleagues and supporting them.
- A team-serving leadership vision, acting as a mentor to help team members progress.
- You regularly play games and understand the fundamental principles that make gameplay enjoyable.
- A constant desire to learn and share expertise with others.
- The ability to be present regularly at the studio.
