Medley Learning is hiring a Lead Full Stack Engineer to build the technical foundation of WorkHero, an AI-powered back office platform for the skilled trades. As a foundational member of the engineering team, you will work directly with the CTO and founders to design and build the workflow engine and core platform systems.
What You'll Do
- Design and build the workflow engine and platform core—creating scalable, event-driven systems that orchestrate complex multi-step workflows and AI-enabled automation.
- Architect and implement AI-powered systems—building robust integrations with LLM APIs, designing agent logic and prompts, and creating tools that blend human expertise with AI capabilities.
- Partner with operations and product teams—translating business needs into elegant technical solutions and building internal tools that make office managers more effective.
- Own technical decisions in your domain—making architectural choices, balancing speed with quality, and contributing to engineering best practices.
What We're Looking For
- 5+ years of software engineering experience with a track record of building and shipping production systems.
- Strong full-stack fundamentals with a spike in backend & infrastructure, having built scalable backend systems and worked with modern frontend frameworks.
- Demonstrated ability to own technical projects end-to-end from design through deployment.
- Familiarity with AI & LLMs: worked with or experimented with LLMs and AI tools.
- Strong product sense and communication skills: understand user needs and can collaborate effectively across technical and non-technical teams.
- Comfort with ambiguity and fast-moving environments: thrive at early-stage companies where you might need to figure things out on your own and wear many hats.
Nice to Have
- Located in greater Boston area or willing to relocate.
- Experience building workflow engines, orchestration systems, or event-driven architectures.
- Hands-on experience working with LLM APIs or building AI-powered features.
- Previous startup experience, especially early stage (pre-Series A).
- Experience mentoring engineers or growing into technical leadership roles.
- Knowledge of the skilled trades, HVAC, or similar service industries.
