Eaton Corporation is looking for a Lead Digital Controls and Embedded Software Engineer to support the development of high-power three-phase UPS, Energy Storage, Battery, and Data Center Power Distribution products. You will be responsible for conceptualizing, developing, and designing advanced real-time DSP algorithms for power conversion applications.
What You'll Do
- Launch critical power infrastructure products meeting customer requirements and Eaton commitments for safety, quality, reliability, cost, and schedule.
- Provide guidance and leadership to other technical project team members.
- Work with global product development teams to solve problems related to performance, functionality, safety, reliability, quality, and component availability.
- Develop mathematical models and algorithms for advanced DSP controls of electronic power conversion products.
- Evaluate competing controls architectures and designs to select the best suited for the application.
- Apply controls theory to design controllers to achieve target product performance.
- Develop simulations using MATLAB/Simulink and verify control designs through simulations.
- Validate designs using real-time simulation systems such as OPAL-RT.
- Participate as a team member in new product development projects (UPS, energy storage, advanced technology products) while meeting schedule, cost, and performance goals.
- Interface closely with cross-functional team members.
- Review product development requirement specifications including product management and customer requirements.
- Analyze, design, and assist in testing and troubleshooting control system software used in UPS and other power quality products.
- Apply best engineering practices and decision making for advanced technical problem solving.
- Foster an environment that promotes Eaton’s goals and philosophies and encourages continuous improvement.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited institution with a minimum of 5 years of industry work experience in real-time digital controls and algorithms for power electronics or industrial products.
- Or, Master's in Electrical or related Engineering degree with a minimum of 3 years of industry work experience in real-time digital controls and algorithms for power electronics or industrial products.
- Or, PhD in Electrical or related engineering degree with a minimum of 1 year of industry work experience in real-time digital controls and algorithms for power electronics or industrial products.
- Candidates must not require sponsorship now or in the future.
Nice to Have
- Master's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
- Design experience with UPS and/or power electronic products.
- Experience in new product development.
- Experience with Hardware-in-the-Loop real-time simulators such as OPAL-RT.
- Extensive knowledge of MATLAB/Simulink tools including Control Toolbox, StateFlow, Optimization Verification & Filter Designs.
- Strong academic understanding of analog & digital control theory along with digital filter designs.
- Experience in design of closed loop control systems.
- Knowledge of three phase electrical power systems.
- Knowledge and experience in C/C++ coding.
- Previous coursework in power electronics.
- Ability to work in a lab environment around high voltage where safety awareness is critical.
- Strong project management skills.
- Effective verbal communications skills.
- Good organizational and prioritization skills to maintain and address multiple assigned projects and expectations.

Benefits & Compensation
- Salary: $105,000 - $154,000 per year.
