At Optum Tech, part of UnitedHealth Group, we are seeking a Lead Data Scientist to design, develop, and deploy advanced ML/AI models that directly impact healthcare outcomes. This role focuses on deriving actionable insights from complex healthcare data and integrating cutting-edge technologies, including generative AI and LLMs, into real-world applications.
What You'll Do
- Design, develop, and deploy ML/AI models for healthcare applications.
- Analyze complex healthcare data to deliver actionable insights.
- Collaborate with clinicians, researchers, and IT teams to translate business needs into technical solutions.
- Optimize existing models for performance and scalability.
- Integrate generative AI and LLMs for tasks like medical text generation and synthetic data creation.
- Communicate findings through reports and visualizations.
- Guide junior data scientists and engineers.
- Ensure data integrity and adhere to healthcare regulations (e.g., HIPAA).
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in CS, Data Science, Statistics, or a related field; Master’s/PhD preferred.
- 7+ years of experience in data science/ML/AI, ideally within healthcare.
- Experience in healthcare AI domains: NLP, computer vision, and predictive modeling.
- Knowledge of generative AI and LLMs (e.g., GPT, BERT, Llama).
- Familiarity with big data tools and SQL/NoSQL databases.
- Understanding of healthcare standards (HL7, FHIR) and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
- Expertise in ML frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, and scikit-learn.
- Proficiency in programming languages like Python, R, Java, or Scala.
- Proven solid statistical analysis and data visualization skills.
- Proven excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
- Proven track record of delivering AI/ML projects from design to deployment.
