The City of Garland is seeking a Journeyman Power Line Technician B to join our team at Garland Power & Light (GP&L). In this role, you will be responsible for building and maintaining dependable electric service in the GP&L transmission and distribution service area, including overhead and underground distribution, transmission, substation, and lighting systems.
What You'll Do
- Repair and replace distribution power lines between generating stations, substations, and customers.
- Build and maintain transmission, distribution, and substation electric system facilities.
- Identify, diagnose, and repair system disturbances and abnormalities.
- Prepare service requests to identify locations and causes of malfunctions.
- Attend on-site and off-site safety training classes.
- Perform standby duties and callout assistance after regular working hours.
- Occasionally travel to remote system facilities.
- Direct and monitor job tasks, progression, and capability of crew.
What We're Looking For
- A High School Diploma or GED and 1-2 years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; or the successful completion of a Lineman College course with certification.
- A valid Class C Texas Driver’s License.
- A Class A Commercial Driver’s License with Tanker Endorsement or the ability to obtain it within 90 days of hire.
- Certification as a DOL Apprentice Line Technician.
