WGI is seeking an Intern - Geospatial AI for the Fall 2025 semester to join our team in Huntsville, Alabama. This internship provides hands-on experience applying artificial intelligence and machine learning methodologies to geospatial data, supporting real-world engineering and infrastructure projects.
What You'll Do
- Apply AI/ML techniques to analyze and interpret geospatial datasets
- Support the development of models for tasks like object detection, classification, or predictive analytics from spatial data
- Collaborate with engineering and geospatial teams to integrate AI insights into project workflows
- Assist in data preprocessing, cleaning, and augmentation for machine learning pipelines
- Document methodologies, findings, and code for internal knowledge sharing
What We're Looking For
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor's or Master's program in Computer Science, Geospatial Sciences, Data Science, Civil Engineering, or a related field
- Foundational coursework or project experience in artificial intelligence and machine learning
- Basic understanding of geospatial concepts, coordinate systems, and data formats (e.g., shapefiles, GeoTIFF)
- Proficiency in a programming language such as Python or R
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
Nice to Have
- Familiarity with geospatial libraries (e.g., GDAL, GeoPandas, rasterio) or deep learning frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch)
- Experience with GIS software platforms like Esri ArcGIS or QGIS
- Exposure to remote sensing data or LiDAR point cloud processing
