About the Role

The University of British Columbia (UBC) is looking for a Capacity and Performance Associate Advisor to join its Performance Engineering team. This team provides enterprise-wide performance evaluation and tuning recommendations to measure non-functional requirements for applications and infrastructure. You will work with developers, data teams, and various infrastructure and application teams to define requirements, create tests, diagnose issues, and provide sign-off.

What You'll Do

  • Work with developers to define non-functional requirements.
  • Work with data teams to ensure data volume and integrity meet testing needs.
  • Create and modify performance test scripts.
  • Test, measure, and interpret application non-functional requirements.
  • Monitor application and infrastructure during tests.
  • Interpret infrastructure key performance indicators.
  • Diagnose application errors and slow performance.
  • Utilize DevOps tooling to automate testing.
  • Develop reports summarizing test results.
  • Participate on calls or chat during load testing and provide go / no-go recommendations.
  • Engage various infrastructure and application teams to receive sign-off.
  • Lead Proof of Concepts (POCs) with application teams, consultant firms, and product vendors.
  • Provide knowledge transfer to team members.
  • Partner with application development and production support leaders.
  • Engage in capacity planning discussions, forecasts, and solutions.

What We're Looking For

  • 8 to 11 years of experience supporting enterprise applications.
  • Knowledge of performance testing tools such as Neoload, Loadrunner, or Jmeter.
  • Knowledge of monitoring tools like Dynatrace, AppDynamics, or Splunk.
  • Extensive experience measuring application response times, error rates, throughput, and resiliency behaviors.
  • Understanding of Middleware technologies, especially Java application server technologies.
  • Direct experience partnering with product vendors, applications teams, and support teams to resolve issues.
  • Customer Focus – dedicated to meeting expectations and requirements of internal and external customers.
  • Interpersonal Savvy – relates well to all kinds of people.
  • Learning and Applying Quickly – learns quickly when facing new problems.

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher preferred or equivalent work experience.
