Johnson Controls Inc., a global leader in smart, healthy and sustainable buildings, is hiring a Fire Alarm Designer to design fire alarm systems for our projects. In this remote role, you will act as a design lead on large, complex multi-faceted projects, directing other members of the design team to deliver value-engineered and code-compliant solutions.
What You'll Do
- Organize and plan your own workload and help direct the workload of less experienced design team members.
- Facilitate reviews of initial designs of medium complexity.
- Coordinate with CAD Support Technicians to prepare fully detailed technical submissions with complete schematics and drawings.
- Oversee CAD Support Technicians in the preparation of project submissions for medium complexity systems.
- Complete detailed calculations to verify system design meets code and standard requirements.
- Participate in pre/post project design meetings and attend customer/site coordination meetings.
- Develop a bill of materials to facilitate construction.
- Examine completed submissions for equipment application, compatibility, and compliance.
- Provide support to Project Managers to assist in maintaining and/or improving project margins.
What We're Looking For
- A minimum of three years’ experience in designing Fire and Security systems.
- NICET Certification Level II, or Level I with Level II attainability.
- Experience with NFPA 72 (National Fire Alarm Code) and ICC 2018 and 2021 code editions.
- Experience in Fire Alarm, Security, Nurse Call, CCTV and/or the Construction Industry.
- A high school degree or equivalent.
- Demonstrated ability in drafting/CAD, computer skills estimating/pricing, and project management.
- Proficient in reading and understanding architectural, electrical, sprinkler suppression, and mechanical construction drawings.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD version 2020 or newer.
- Working knowledge of MS Office (Excel and Word).
- Must be capable and comfortable working remotely through Microsoft Teams and able to commute to the office on a limited basis.
Nice to Have
- Working knowledge of Revit 2020 version or newer.
