Motorola Solutions is looking for a Federal Field Engineer to play a key role in implementing and supporting mission-critical communications systems for the Department of Defense. In this hybrid role, you will serve as the Lead System Field Engineer, providing post-sale technical support, maintenance, and optimization for advanced telecommunications and public safety product applications.
What You'll Do
- Act as Lead System Field Engineer on projects or system upgrades, directing self and other assigned project team members while mentoring less experienced staff.
- Provide post-sale implementation, technical support, maintenance, optimization, and troubleshooting of specialized telecommunications and public safety product applications.
- Perform specific system configuration, programming, optimization, testing, and documentation tasks.
- Provide advanced troubleshooting of software-driven electronics, provision communication system infrastructure, and optimize performance of RF and Broadband architecture.
- Maintain, optimize, test, support, and document complex mission-critical communications systems.
- Perform preventative maintenance routines with a focus on trend analysis and documentation of results.
- Provide weekly reports of activities and accomplishments.
- Develop solutions to difficult technical problems encountered during system maintenance, upgrades, or support.
- Team with Engineering, Project Management, and Sales personnel to effectively maintain, optimize, and support advanced systems.
- Work with other Field Engineers and support teams to characterize system defects.
- Maintain server hardware/OS and software infrastructure and troubleshoot to resolve system and application issues.
- Solve customer problems quickly during stressful situations.
What We're Looking For
- High School Diploma/GED.
- 2+ years of experience in one of the following: LMR, RF systems, Radio Communications, Radio Frequency, Wired/Wireless Communication Systems, IT Systems, Military, Motorola products, or Networking equipment.
- Legal authorization to work in the U.S. indefinitely; employer work permit sponsorship is not available.
- Must be a U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain necessary security clearance as required by government contract.
- Must possess a current and valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Must be willing to obtain a DoD Secret Clearance and a DHS Public Trust Clearance.
- CompTIA Security+ certification or ability to obtain it within the first year of employment.
- Candidate must reside in Arizona or Colorado for project assignments.
- This position is subject to working in high-security areas governed by CJIS Security Policy and requires passing a stringent fingerprint background check.
Nice to Have
- A 2-year Associates degree in Electronics or IT.
- Unique combinations of both multi-site RF communications systems and computer/networking skills.
- Pursuit or possession of a network certification: Network+, CompTIA, Security+.
- Very strong knowledge of wired communications systems, such as LAN and WAN.
- Proficiency in computer network installation, configuration, and maintenance, including cabling, routers, switches, firewalls, and bridges.
- Experience with R.F. interfaces and systems such as transmitters, receivers, and antenna networks.
- Knowledge in standard telephony, dedicated data circuits, and packet switching techniques.
- Strong self-management and interpersonal skills to work closely with customers, subcontractors, and internal teams.
- Experience with logging recording systems, RF interfaces, wired/wireless communications systems, and networking equipment.
- Excellent communication skills and a professional image.
- The ideal candidate demonstrates high-level systems experience with a minimum of 6 years of related experience with specific equipment and technologies.

- T1 Circuits and MPLS Circuits.
- Computer IP Networks and Configuration.
- RF infrastructure technologies: Motorola SmartZone, SmartNet, console systems, ASTRO conventional, trunked equipment, and simulcast systems.
- Communications test equipment: Communication System Analyzers, Ethernet Link test sets, T1 Test Sets, TIMS, Digital RF Power Meter.
- Motorola Conventional, SmartNet, MCC Console systems, Secure Operations and ASTRO A7.x - A20.x, Digital systems.
