About the Role

Eaton Corporation is hiring an Embedded Software Engineer to join the Electrical Critical Power Solutions Division. In this role, you will architect, develop, and validate embedded software for real-time control systems within new product development, focusing on SiC-based three-phase power conversion systems for critical applications like data centers.

What You'll Do

  • Review requirements and translate system specifications into embedded software architecture.
  • Evaluate alternative software architecture solutions, balancing cost, performance, and schedule.
  • Establish system and sub-system level requirements from functional specifications.
  • Develop, debug, and test embedded software in C/C++ for real-time control.
  • Validate designs using hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulation systems.
  • Develop and optimize HDL code (VHDL/Verilog) for implementing digital control algorithms on FPGA.
  • Perform synthesis, place-and-route, and timing closure using FPGA toolchains like Xilinx Vivado or Intel Quartus.
  • Support board-level bring-up and debugging of PLC, microcontroller, and FPGA-based systems with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and JTAG debuggers.
  • Apply engineering best practices for advanced technical problem solving.
  • Provide technical guidance and leadership to other project team members.
  • Work with global product development teams to solve problems related to performance, functionality, safety, and reliability.

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering with at least five (5) years of experience in real-time firmware/embedded software development.
  • Master's Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering with at least three (3) years of experience in real-time embedded software development.
  • Eaton will not consider applicants for employment immigration sponsorship or support for this position.

Nice to Have

  • Design experience with power electronic products.
  • Experience in embedded firmware development and programming in C/C++.
  • Experience developing digital controls and algorithms for AC and DC power conversion.
  • Experience using Hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulation.
  • Experience with FPGA-based implementation of digital control algorithms and PWM modulation techniques.
  • Familiarity with integrating FPGA designs with microcontrollers or DSPs.
  • Ability to analyze and troubleshoot analog and digital control circuitry.
  • Experience with real-time operating systems (RTOS).

Technical Stack

  • C/C++, MATLAB/Simulink, Control Toolbox, StateFlow
  • Optimization Verification & Filter Designs
  • VHDL/Verilog, Xilinx Vivado, Intel Quartus
  • Hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulation, RTOS

Team & Environment

You will be part of an engineering team within the Electrical Critical Power Solutions Division, collaborating with global cross-functional teams.

Benefits & Compensation

  • Compensation: $105,000 - $143,000 per year.
  • Relocation benefits will be provided within the United States only.
