Elliott Aviation is seeking a dedicated professional to join our team and design, develop, and maintain the software solutions that power advanced lighting systems for aircraft. You will work closely with cross-functional teams including hardware engineers, product managers, and quality assurance to deliver reliable, safe, and efficient lighting control.
What You'll Do
- Design, implement, and test embedded and application-level software for aircraft lighting control systems.
- Collaborate with hardware engineers to integrate software with lighting hardware, sensors, and control units.
- Ensure all software meets FAA, ICAO, and other relevant aviation safety and compliance standards.
- Provide ongoing support for deployed systems, including troubleshooting, bug fixes, and performance enhancements.
- Create and maintain detailed technical documentation, including design specifications, user manuals, testing protocols, and change control procedures.
- Participate in R&D initiatives to improve system efficiency, introduce smart lighting features, and explore IoT and AI applications.
- Actively engage with customer feedback and field data to inform software design decisions and prioritize feature development.
- Design and implement secure, scalable OTA update mechanisms for aviation lighting systems.
- Develop and execute comprehensive software testing strategies, including unit, integration, regression, and system validation.
- Apply mechanical design standards to develop structural repairs, antenna installations, equipment mounting, and panel replacements.
- Utilize standards for avionics wiring diagrams and wire marking; support external DER collaboration and FAA conformity processes.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
- 5+ years of experience in software development in embedded systems or industrial automation.
- 3+ years of program management experience.
- Proficiency in object-oriented programming languages such as C/C++, Python, or Java.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents.
- Experience in creating, reading, and understanding blueprints and wiring diagrams.
- Ability to design an aircraft modification and follow it through certification and delivery.
- Expert understanding of FAA requirements and regulations regarding aircraft modifications.
- Ability to work well with others in a team environment, providing input and feedback in a helpful manner.
- Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing with internal and external partners.
- Ability to attain & retain AOA badge or Airport requirements.
- Valid State Driver’s License for occasional travel.
Nice to Have
- Experience in the aviation or aerospace industry.
- Knowledge of lighting control systems, PLC programming, or SCADA systems.
- Familiarity with DO-178C or other aviation software certification standards.
- Experience with cloud-based monitoring systems and IoT integration.
- Experience with real-time operating systems (RTOS) and microcontroller programming.
- Familiarity with communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, CAN, Ethernet).
- Understanding of safety-critical systems and software validation practices.
