This position plays a key role in the design and implementation of electrical systems for industrial and infrastructure projects, ensuring technical accuracy, compliance with standards, and effective team collaboration.
Responsibilities
- Lead an engineering team within a discipline, providing direction with some oversight.
- Supervise design staff and specialized personnel involved in engineering tasks.
- Oversee electrical engineering work and conduct design reviews for accuracy and compliance.
- Help develop internal design standards, technical specifications, and quality control processes for engineering disciplines.
- Act as the primary engineer or technical lead on small to medium-sized projects.
- Plan and manage engineering activities to ensure timely and efficient execution.
- Monitor project schedules, budgets, and task scopes, providing input and updates as needed.
- Perform power system engineering calculations for industrial facilities, including those in oil and gas, renewables, petrochemicals, and wastewater treatment, under supervision.
- Support the development of specifications and conduct research on electrical components such as switchgear, motor control centers, panels, and motor starters or VFDs.
- Demonstrate competence in creating one-line diagrams, panel schedules, cable tray and conduit layouts, cable sizing, and CAD drafting.
- Review vendor-submitted documents and produce wiring diagrams based on vendor-provided drawings.
- Identify inconsistencies or errors in engineering deliverables during review processes.
- Track work details and prepare for discussions with supervisors or team leads.
- Investigate and resolve technical issues using available resources and tools.
- Continuously build technical knowledge and improve engineering skills.
- Maintain professional working relationships with colleagues and team members across the organization.
- Mentor junior engineers, designers, and drafters to support their development.
- Plan communication strategies to effectively convey technical information.
- Locate and apply company and client technical standards to project work.
- Be available for travel when required by project needs.
- Conduct site visits during construction or operations to observe conditions and support implementation.
- Perform lighting system designs, including luminaire placement and circuit switching layouts.
- Follow quality assurance and quality control procedures, including completing self-reviews before submission.
- Keep project documentation, calculations, and design assumptions well-organized in compliance with document control standards.
- Contribute to post-project reviews and help improve templates, standards, and workflows.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a similar ABET-accredited engineering program, along with relevant professional experience.
- 7 to 10 or more years of professional engineering experience.
- Completed coursework in power engineering topics.
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification is required.
- Working knowledge of the National Electrical Code and NFPA 70E standards.
- Ability to create and interpret one-line diagrams and control schematics.
- Proficient in using engineering analysis software such as ETAP or SKM.
- Strong understanding of symmetrical components, fault current calculations, and electrical machine theory.
- Capable of working with a supervisor to complete routine engineering tasks effectively.
- Able to break down complex tasks into managea
