Udemy is looking for a DevOps Engineer to join our Platform team, specifically the Datastore Infrastructure (DSI) group. You will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of our databases, streaming, and caching infrastructure, ensuring our platform scales reliably for millions of students worldwide.
What You'll Do
- Lead improvement projects for our datastores and platform teams to align with the company’s long term objectives.
- Maintain infrastructure uptime, monitor performance, and ensure infrastructure continues scaling as we grow.
- Develop immutable infrastructure patterns and automate provisioning via code using tools like Terraform, Python, Golang, and Ansible.
- Ensure adherence to PCI, ISO27001, and SOC 2 compliance, modifying CI/CD processes when necessary.
- Advocate for and implement positive changes in tools and processes.
- Participate in an on-call rotation with a systematic approach to incident management.
- Participate in day-to-day activities, support requests, and project-related tasks.
- Contribute to documentation, maintain ticketing queues, and provide project support.
- Provide coaching and mentorship to new hires.
What We're Looking For
- 3-5 years of professional experience in a Cloud Engineering, SRE, or DBRE team managing large production workloads.
- Proficiency with managing MySQL at scale, including horizontal scaling, sharding, query optimization, HA/DR, and automation.
- Strong understanding of supporting datastores running behind Kubernetes workloads in production.
- Proficiency with Terraform, Ansible, Git, and infrastructure-as-code practices.
- Strong experience in Kafka/MSK cluster management, performance tuning, and ensuring high availability.
- Strong experience with distributed caching systems like Redis, Valkey, or Memcache.
- Experience in Python or Golang.
- Knowledge of configuration management tools, monitoring systems like Datadog, and scaling strategies.
- Strong troubleshooting skills for complex database issues.
- Hands-on experience with AWS cloud infrastructure and security best practices.
- Adaptability and comfort working in a fast-paced, hands-on environment.
