Responsibilities
- Design and maintain a centralized developer portal using Backstage.io or equivalent for unified resource access
- Develop abstractions and APIs that allow developers to independently provision infrastructure and services
- Implement self-service workflows for setting up environments, configurations, and access controls
- Build reusable templates and blueprints for services, repositories, and deployment pipelines
- Design, implement, and optimize fully automated CI/CD pipelines
- Improve build and deployment speed using caching, parallel execution, and performance tuning
- Enable GitOps practices with continuous deployment and automated rollback mechanisms
- Integrate automated testing at all levels with clear, actionable reporting
- Implement advanced deployment patterns including blue-green, canary releases, and feature flagging
- Design ephemeral environments for pull requests and branches
- Automate full lifecycle management of temporary environments including teardown
- Reduce infrastructure costs via auto-scaling, scheduling, and cleanup of idle resources
- Integrate ephemeral environments with code review and testing processes
- Set up intelligent alerting with noise reduction and event correlation
- Configure dashboards with SLI/SLO tracking for key services
- Develop automated runbooks and self-healing responses for recurring incidents
- Embed observability data—logs, metrics, traces—into the developer portal
- Maintain and evolve infrastructure defined as code using tools like Terraform or CloudFormation
- Enforce security policies through code and automated scanning in pipelines
- Securely manage secrets, configurations, and access with full audit trails
- Apply least privilege and zero-trust models across all systems
- Research and integrate AI tools for predicting failures and optimizing resources
- Use machine learning to automate operational tasks such as anomaly detection and capacity planning
- Evaluate and adopt emerging AI-driven operations technologies
